Welcome to 2017!

Back in France - May 2017

It is difficult to believe but this is the 5th time we have flown to France for 'Winter', well, the Australian Winter. Reminding ourselves that the 1st of May was a public holiday in France and that there was little point arriving in a country closed for the day we left Brisbane on the 1st, flew via Sydney, Singapore and London-Heathrow to arrive in Toulouse, France mid-morning on the 2nd. We picked up our brand new Peugeot 2008 at the airport (we have decided that Peugeot Leasing is by far the most convenient method of having wheels) and drove straight to Cajarc after the first fill of petrol and a short shop at the Blagnac E-Leclerc.

The garden took surprisingly little time to get into order, although a good crop of winter and spring weeds had already provided many seeds that we will be 'weeding' for much of the summer as they grow. A few trips to the various Pepinières in the district saw the hanging baskets, pots and various beds refilled with a riot of colour for the coming summer.

Our first visitors arrived in the third week for a few days and work in the garden and house was interrupted for the obligatory trips to local highlights and tourist sights. This time it was Conques, Figeac, Padirac and Rocamadour that provided the focal points. May is a good time to visit all four, away from the summer crowds.

This year I intend providing a little local colour of the places nearby but will leave the details to seperate pages that you will need to load via links with only a few photographic highlights on this main page. Each different location will be described in more detail with some history either in the pages titled "Villages and Towns" or one of the several specific pages for churches, chateaux or similar. This time it is "l'Environ" for Conques, Rocamadour and the Gouffre de Padirac (within an easy day's drive) and "Villes et Villages tout près" for Figeac being within a 30km radius (a half hour by car).

N.B. If you hover your mouse over a thumbnail you may see a small table appear. This will contain the size and approximate download times of the original photograph (in JPG form) and of the larger file linked to the thumbnail. If you click on the thumnail this larger photo will load in a seperate tab. The download times are based on 1Mbit and 40Mbit speeds which is the maximum upload speed available to me. They are also theoretical minimum times for download. Alternatively you will see a short description of the photo.
The original sized photos are available for personal use from us (refer contact details elsewhere) but copyright for all downloads remains with the photographer at all times (Trish & I). You are welcome to use the photos anywhere but please acknowledge the photographer wherever the photos are used.
Donations welcome!

We now have pages for categories of photos covering the 2013 year. Some repetition but not a lot so worth looking at all the pages.  I will attempt to update these as we go through 2014 although it is likely to be every few weeks rather than weekly.

Footnote

The intention of this site was to provide a rough blog of our travels, a few comments on places visited, sights seen, things done (or not done) and a selection of various photographs taken during what we hope will become a regular annual (bi-annual?) stay in Europe based in a small village on the banks of the Lot river in SW France. The discussion will remain in reverse timeline, updated irregularly and with photographs as we go. Each photo is a thumbnail into a larger version which will load into a seperate window when clicked. Don't worry, we archive every month and it's likely the diary will only be updated weekly at best so there won't be lot's to download each time you visit.

As always we can be contacted on our normal email addresses image missing or image missing or through Trish's Facebook page and the site is hosted on our micro server at home in Brisbane.
